Multimedia is a combination of various forms of traditional media, such as audio, video, text and images. As multimedia largely relies on the usage of computer, the roles of traditional media have been significantly altered. For the photography industry, various softwares have been created to improve the quality of pictures. Hence, only learning how to take pictures and the theory of shooting is not enough. It is better for photographers to learn to use computer and programs that are related to pictures too.
Young photographers usually learn how to use diverse softwares and computer skills at school. Some may even learn these skills by themselves. Some photographers are even able to take pictures as well as designing websites. Nevertheless, it may be harder for photographers of the elder generation to learn these skills. To get involved in the new working environment and production system, it is obligatory for old photographers to spend extra time to learn to use the new technology and have practice. If not, they may not be able to reach the present standard of the industry and satisfy the demand of the current market.
With the usage of new technologies, multimedia alters traditional media in various ways. In the
photography industry, while appliances which are used for photo-shooting become more related to digital technologies because of the multimedia, the production process is being affected as well. However, these changes actually bring positive effects rather than negative effects to the photography industry. First, multimedia has successfully improved the quality of pictures. Second, multimedia allows the production cost to be lowered. Third, multimedia requires less space for the storage of pictures.
In the past, fewer special effects can be created. Yet, multimedia allows more special effects to be added to the products. For instance, even during the time of shooting is not raining; water droplets can still be added into the pictures with the help of specific software. The ‘blur’ effect of programs like Adobe Photoshop can erase the weakness such as spots or pimples of the model, making them look perfect. Hence, photographers do not have to worry about the condition of the environment or the objects being shot. Multimedia actually brings convenience to photographers.
As the software can different effects, photographers do not have to travel to specific places to get specific scenes or specific effects. If a photographer from
Dissimilar from the traditional camera, digital camera allows photographers to view pictures on the computer or the camera itself. Therefore, photographers do not have to waste time and money to print out the pictures before they realize those pictures are not what they want indeed. In addition, less space is needed for storing the final products because the products can be stored in a digital format on the computer or other electronic devices. Since products in digital forms do not changes because of factors like time and environment, the products can be kept for a long period of time without being damaged or eroded as well.
Hence, multimedia impacts the photography industry positively in truth.
